Hey boys and girls, sorry to have disappeared on you all like that for several months. If you have read my last journal entry you will know I have been working hard on a Jazz and Jess spin off novel based on the web-comic I used to write with creator Nate Hammond.
Well, it's here!
That's right, the book is finished, three drafts and several proof reads and resizes later and voila! I present to you MALICE AND HYPOCRISY! Not only is it the first Jazz and Jess novel but it is my debut as a novelist, which has been a dream of mine for nearly 17 years! Suffice to say I'm a bundle of nerves and emotion about the whole thing.
The book itself acts as a sequel to the last story I did on the comic "In Harms Way" and features Ben, a firm fave of the comic, moving to the capital city of Malice to start anew. While there he and his new friends get caught up in a huge mystery and an evern bigger adveture which will change Ben for the better and opens the door to his return to the webcomic.
Along with working as a sequel to In Harms Way and a spin off for the comic as a whole it is also acts as a jumping on point for new readers and will work as a point of reference to a grand mythology that Nate and I have been working on for years now. On top of all of that it shows our retolling of Ben for the future, gives clues to the future of the webcomic itself and provides lots of backstory that will entwine with the mythology I previously mentioned. That and it is also part one of a planned trilogy of Jazz and Jess novels featuring not only Ben but a few other familiar faces as well. If you're are a reader of the web comic you may well be very pleased to see who one of Ben's latest allies turns out to be.
All in all I am insanely proud of this story, Nate has given it his thumbs up and I hope this is the start of something big for all parties.
