So it's been a while since I made an entry, if you've followed me for a while I must remind you of the restraining order. But in all seriousness folks, if you have seen my journal, met in me in real life or have spoken to me for any stretch of time you'll know a few fundimental things, such as how my colouring is a hobby and my true field as an "artist" lays in writing. In the past I've had problems working on a novel of my own for one reason or another and so have written for my friend Nate Hammond on his web-comic Jazz and Jess and still act as a prescence on the comic even now.
Last week I saw Nate who wanted to discuss the comic with me, after a long period of not actively having written on JaJ (for short) I wrote a large and "game-changing" story called "In Harms Way", the story arc itself is part of a bigger motion in Jazz and Jess and helped show that really nobody is safe. I made this point by shattering their fictional lives by killing of Harmony, Ben's girlfriend. Ben has always been a popular character and I proudly and happily provided a "voice" for this background character and turned him into an essential part of the JaJ story. By writing that his girlfriend get bitten by a zombie, eventually turn and have Ben put her to rest I was met with anger from some fans, outcry by a couple and praise by others. Overall I was pleased with the reactions and still very proud of the story, several people have since stated to me how the arc, now finished, was "worth it" and Nate and I still feel that when the next few major arcs pass people will look back at it even more foundly.
We believe it so much so that Nate has asked me to make a sequel.
That's right, Ben Harris is coming back, as he was always bound to, but before his return to the webcomic he has one more tale to tell and it will be yours truly that will write this story.
So far I cannot give anything away apart from the fact that it will not be on the website as a comic, in fact it will be the first ever printed media connected to Jazz and Jess, it will be the first appearance of several key plot elements Nate and I have concieved for the future of the comic and that Ben will not be the only familiar character making an appearance. I can also reveal that as I'm writing this we've agreed that it will not be a graphic novel printing but an illustrated novella, which will not just make it the first fully written story of the Jazz and Jess franchise but it will also be my first published work.
Ben's coming back in a solo adventure.
It will be epic.
It will be a book.
And Duke Palmer can now officially put "writer" on his CV.
Nate and I covered this in a volg that will appear soon on my youtube page but for now, you've heard it here first.
